The portrait heads and bouquet silhouettes in Exchange are excerpted from coins and commercial tokens used throughout Canada's history. They include pre and post confederation coins from Canada, England, France, Upper and Lower Canada and other provinces before they joined confederation as well as foreign coins once commonly used in Canada. The original orientation of the heads is maintained in the work so some face left and others right. This suggests an interaction between the portrait silhouettes although they are in fact distanced by time and geography.
