In Expanded Field, a large table installation, a field of repeating pattern is screen printed in black ink onto an expanse of wooden squares. Shaped and dyed plywood elements are built up in stacks on top of the surface with cut fragments corresponding to pattern details. As in Double, Cube, and Column, this grid of ornament has its origins in an 18th century tile design. Expanded Field can be seen in relation to large-scale architectural models with the extended repeating pattern providing the equivalent of urban context.
