Catch - 2004
Laser cut pleather (synthetic leather)
487cm x 427cm x 550cm (16' x 14' x 18')
Photo: Isaac Applebaum
Exhibition history: Koffler Gallery, Toronto, ON, 2004, Art Gallery of Sudbury, Sudbury, ON 2004 in the solo exhibition Lure
Catch hangs in swags from a ceiling or skylight, pooling on the floor below. Its baroque form is at odds with the contemporary materiality of the slick synthetic leather and the excessive repetition of a delicate circular vine pattern further distances the work from the 15th century embroidered bodice that inspired it.
